Yes, I’m officially living in a country and western ballad — I haven’t seen Sir Harry since shortly after the last Friday Flashman. So that makes two trusty steeds thieved, a fight with an angry bronco lost badly and my beloved pet done wandered off if you’re keeping score at home.
Anyway, if you’re in the neighborhood, please keep an eye out. Because I’m going in for surgery on Wednesday morning at UCSF Parnassus and won’t be able to look for him after tomorrow.
Seriously, fuck my life.
With the help of my friend Anjuli, got a copy of the traffic collision report. Turns out I was blindsided by a Daewoo Lanos going west on Lincoln Boulevard and taking a left turn onto 12th Avenue as I was cycling east on Lincoln. After I was treated on the scene and sent, along with Sue, to San Francisco General, the motorist was allowed to proceed.
The officer cited her for violation of California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) for failure to yield to oncoming traffic when taking a left turn in the report. The intersection was uncontrolled, so I had the right of way. The driver is quoted as saying “I was driving on Lincoln into the sun and made a left turn. I heard the crash and saw him on the ground. I didn’t see him because of the sun.” There were no witnesses cited in the report.
The driver does have insurance, so as much trouble as it’s been figuring out how and where to get treatment covered by my own insurance, presumably I am due to be covered for any additional medical expenses related to the accident. More importantly to me, there’s a little more light on the big, dark spot in my memory from immediately before and after the crash and some validation that I was acting entirely responsibly at the time.
As you do.
Oh hell yes.
Thank you, Brock.

Oh, that analog synth kick! You can feel the smooth curves of the waveforms. Or something. Anyway, hometown house via Uptown Almanac.
Keep this in mind the next time someone tells you the problem with affordable housing in San Francisco is entirely due to the lack of market rate residential development. Via Siobhann.

Right next to the table with all the napkins! Oh snap!
So yesterday after work I was at getting dressed in the locker room at the Embarcadero YMCA when I heard the dulcet tones of SFGTV star Walter Paulson, who’s also a member, apparently. Anyway, he was working on some of his material for the Ethics Commission hearings on Suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi’s case.
Unfortunately for Mr. Paulson, Ethics Commission Chair Benedict Hur has reportedly declared that no public comment will be permitted during the consideration of the item before the commission. My fellow Sunshine Ordinance Task Force member Richard Knee pointed out in an open letter to Mr. Hur that this possibly contravenes the Brown Act and the Sunshine Ordinance protections for access to public meetings. Per a follow-up from Mr. Knee, after reviewing the recording, Mr. Hur actually said the opposite! There will be public comment! Meaning the process should remain “completely surreal.”
